According to Narodna Medicina, dogs are the main carriers of an infectious disease called Cutaneous leishmaniasis.
Cutaneous leishmaniasis is commonly known as oriental sore, tropical sore, chiclero ulcer, chiclero's ulcer or Aleppo boil. It is a parasite transmitted by a bite of a phlebotomine sandfly.
The incubation period usually lasts between one month to several years according to veterinarians.

PROCESS OF TRANSMISSION:
Sandfly bites dogs --> Dogs get infected throughout their organs and/or skin --> Dogs ticks gets the parasite to humansThe incubation period usually lasts between one month to several years according to veterinarians.
Symptoms of Cutaneous leishmaniasis
- In DOGS
- Kidney failure
- Hair loss
- Lesions on the skin
- In HUMANS
- Some people have silent infection, meaning symptoms do not occur
- Fever
- Weight loss
- Swellin of the spleen and liver
- Abnormal blood test
- Low blood count, low red blood cell count (anemia)
- Low white blood cell count (leukopenia)
- Low platelet count (thrombocytopenia)
Can it be treated?
- The skin sores from the Cutaneous leishmaniasis may take months or years but they usually heal on their own. However, scars may be visible
- If the cutaneous leishmaniasis is LEFT UNTREATED, the types of parasites that targets the skin mays eventually cause sores to the mucous membranes of the mouth, nose or throat. This is called Mucosal leishmaniasis.
- If the Mucosal leishmaniasis is LEFT UNTREATED, then case of Visceral leishmaniasis occurs. THIS IS FATAL!
