Head lice are parasites that live on human scalp and feed on the victim's blood. They are hard to get rid of and very contagious.

So here, we give you 8 safe and natural remedies to get rid of head lice. It's proven, it's effective, and it's not expensive.
1. Listerine Mouthwash and Vinegar
What you need:- Listerine mouthwash (off-brands work just fine as well)
- White vinegar
- Shower cap or plastic bags from the grocery store
- A couple towels
- Shampoo
- Lice comb
Procedure:
- Douse your child’s head with as much Listerine as needed to completely wet their head (Lice don't like the smell of spearmint)
- Secure shower cap or plastic bag on your hair and leave it sit for at least an hour
- Carefully rinse the mouthwash from the hair
- Wash hair with white vinegar
- Reapply the bags again. Let it sit for another hour
- Take the bags off carefully. Rinse the vinegar from their hair. Shampoo as normal.
- Comb their hair using the lice comb. The vinegar helps to loosen the glue on the eggs, so that way you can easily comb them out
2. Essential Oil Treatment
What you need: ANY of these essential oils- tea tree oil
- lavender oil
- neem oil
- clove oil
- eucalyptus oil
- aniseed oil
- cinnamon leaf oil
- red thyme oil
- peppermint oil
- nutmeg oil
Procedure:
Method 1
- Mix 2 ounces of olive oil with 15 to 20 drops of the essential oil
- Apply to the scalp using cotton balls.
- Leave this mixture on the scalp and hair overnight—at least 12 hours.
Method 2
- Mix the 15 to 20 drops of essential oil in 4 ounces of rubbing alcohol.
- Place the mixture in a spray bottle and saturate the hair with it, leaving in 12 hours.
- The following morning, comb out your child’s hair
- Shampoo, rinse, and repeat.
- Once the lice have been eliminated, the alcohol – essential oil spray can be used as a preventive treatment.
3. Garlic
Method 1
- Grind eight to 10 garlic cloves into a paste and mix in two to three teaspoons of lime juice.
- Apply the mixture thoroughly onto the scalp.
- Leave it on for a half an hour and then rinse the hair thoroughly with hot water.
Method 2
- You can make a thick paste by combining fresh garlic juice with some cooking oil, lemon extract, green tea and some shampoo and conditioner.
- Coat the hair thoroughly with the paste and cover your scalp with a towel or shower cap for about a half an hour.
- Wash your hair with your regular shampoo.
- Repeat this remedy on a weekly basis for one to two months.
4. Baby Oil
- Apply some baby oil on your hair and then comb your hair slowly so that lice start falling from your head.
- Then wash your hair with laundry detergent and hot water.
- Before bed, put some white vinegar on your hair and cover your head with a shower cap or towel. Leave it on overnight.
- In the morning, wash your hair with regular shampoo and then apply some conditioner.
- Repeat this process for at least three to four days to get positive results.
5. Salt
- Mix one-quarter cup of salt and one-quarter cup of vinegar thoroughly.
- Gently spray the solution onto your hair so that it becomes slightly wet. Put on a shower cap and leave it for about two hours.
- Then wash and condition your hair.
6. Petroleum Jelly
- Apply a thick layer of petroleum jelly to the scalp before going to bed.
- Cover your head tightly with a shower cap or towel. Leave it on overnight.
- In the morning, use baby oil to remove the petroleum jelly.
- Comb your hair thoroughly to remove the lice.
7. Mayonnaise
- Apply full-fat mayonnaise liberally over your scalp.
- Cover your hair with a shower cap or towel and leave it on for about eight hours or overnight.
- Shampoo and then comb any remaining lice out of your hair.
- Repeat this daily for one week.
8. White Vinegar
- Dilute white vinegar with an equal amount of water.
- Saturate the hair and scalp with the solution and then wrap a towel around the hair for about an hour or two.
- Next dip a comb in white vinegar and comb your hair, focusing on one small section of hair at a time.
- You can also rinse your hair with white vinegar before and after shampooing.
